Posted on March 30, 2022November 14, 2022

A recovering addict is an individual who has decided to take the long walk to freedom. Such a person has resolved to become sober via the right means and treatment. During this phase, they need all the help and support to forge ahead and achieve their goal.

It might be difficult to know who a recovering addict is because they might not exhibit some of the usual signs and symptoms of a full-blown addict.

However, there are some signs that someone is recovering from addiction.

  1. Willingness to live a healthy life

Recovering individuals always show the enthusiasm to get their life back on track by implementing safe and healthy measures to facilitate this.

They will be keen on eating a good diet, working out, staying clear of alcohol, drugs, and other behavioral addiction routes.

  1. A growing relationship with family and friends

People who are recovering from addiction are already on track to rebuild their relationships with family and friends. During the addiction process, there is a tendency for addicts to be at loggerheads with their loved ones.

However, when treatment is in play, the counselor or the therapist helps to mend the broken relationship between addicts and their loved ones.

This is because the presence of family and friends serves as one of the pivotal support systems to ensuring an individual’s recovery from addiction.

  1. Learning and unlearning habits

One of the highlights of a recovering addict’s journey is having to learn and unlearn habits to shape their new life. They will drop bad habits that boost addiction and pick up new ones that will enhance their sobriety pursuit.

Also, they will learn to avoid people and places that can trigger their addiction. Then they will learn to identify new friends and places that will help them remain sober.

Recovering addicts needs all the help they can get to get their lives back on track. This is why much support should be provided to ensure they have a clean bill of health.
